Incorporated on January 4th, 1927 with 237 charter members, the University Women’s Club of Montreal, Inc. (UWCM) holds the distinction of having had the first clubhouse in Canada for university women.The kitchen of the house the club purchased at 3492 Peel Street was first used to serve tea on March 17, 1927 and since then, March 17 has been recognized as the club’s official “birthday”.The Peel Street house was sold in 1963 and, for the next ten years, the club occupied premises at 910 Sherbrooke Street West.From May 1973 to December 1987, the Club had an arrangement for space and privileges at the University Club of Montreal at 2047 Mansfield Street.The move to our present quarters at 3529 Atwater Avenue took place in January 1988.The Coach House that we occupy was built in 1860 by the Sulpicians and is now the property of the Atwater Club.We have club quarters on the ground floor of the Coach House that are suitable for social functions and small group meetings.

The Club holds monthly meetings from September to May, inclusive.These dinner meetings are held in the main clubhouse of the Atwater Club and usually include a broad array of guest speakers and special events.Special Interest Groups meet for a variety of topics and projects at the Coach House.All members are encouraged to participate in these activities.
