The original purpose of the UWCM was to help women in need, to promote the best possible public education for all, and to enjoy a life of the mind with other women.
While women have made great strides since the Club was created in 1927, nonetheless, much remains to be done. In 1985, the Club created the UWCM Public Foundation, which awards bursaries to assist mature women students continue their education, and which supports various local charities that help women in need.
The Club also lobbies governments on issues of importance to women through our membership in the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), and advocates for the improvement of the status of women worldwide through our membership in the International Federation of University Women (IFUW).
